In class students went over their quizzes after which we watched a holiday movie.  Have a great break!!

Quiz - Fraction Basics

In class students took a quiz on fraction basics.  Students has to make equivalent fractions, put fractions in simplest form, convert between mixed numbers and improper fractions and finally compare/order fractions. 

There is no homework.

Review for Quiz

In class students played bingo as a means of reviewing for the quiz on Tuesday, December 16th.  The quiz will be on (1) Reducing/simplifying fractions, (2) Converting mixed numbers to improper fractions, (3) converting improper fractions to mixed numbers, (4) Comparing/ordering fractions finding a common denominator.

Comparing and Ordering Fractions

In class students learned how to compare and order fractions using three methods.  The first method was to draw a visual using a ruler and compare the sizes of the shapes.  The second method was to find a common denominator by multiplying the denominators; then comparing the numerators.  The third and final method was similar to the second method except this time students are finding the least common denominator.

MIxed Number and Improper Fractions

In class students learned how to convert between mixed numbers and improper fractions.  There was also discussion during class comparing/contrasting standard units (inches) and metric units (cm).
