Addition and Subtraction Equations
In class students learned how to solve one-step addition and subtraction equations. Remember, to receive full credit students must solve by (1) showing the inverse operation, (2) circling answer and (3) showing complete check. An example is provided below:

Writing Expressions from a table or for a sequence
In class students learned how to write a variable expression for a sequence. An example provided below:
5, 8, 11, 14.....3n + 2
In the expression above (3n +2) the variable, n, represents the term number so the first term (n = 1) can be found by substituting 1 in for n in the expression 3(1)+2 = 5. Finding the expression that represents the sequence makes it easy to find any term in the sequence. So if we wanted to find the the 100th term (n = 100) in the sequence we would substitute 100 in for the n in the expressions 3(100) +2 = 302.

Translating Verbal Phrases
In class we worked on translating verbal phrases into algebraic expressions and equations. Remember, the main difference between an expression and an equation is an equation has an equal sign. We evaluate (or simplify) expressions and we solve equations. There are a number of different words that are used to represent each of the operations (+, -, x, ÷) and exponents which are located in your notes. The notes are linked below:

Math Bingo
In class students played a game as a means to review for the upcoming final. During class the 6th graders were buddies to the fifth graders. The homework is to complete the assignment from the previous post for class Monday.
